Early June in the gardens sees the trainers getting to work. Small teams of nimble fingers workers (almost exclusively women) encourage the stongest young bines off the floor and up the strings. It's very damp this year (you may have noticed) which is conducive to deseases, particularly downy mildew. Thankfully things in east Kent are looking good at the moment.
The Kent Green Hop Beer project is gathering momentum.
